Getting a Hosting Account

It’s time to sign up with a host for your affiliate review site. Many people start out using HostGator.com, although there are many other good options out there.

You can get hosting for a relatively small fee each month. It’s definitely not going to break the bank and there are a lot of benefits to having your own hosting account.

You will have to read the instructions of your host specifically. Many of the easiest hosts to work with, including Hostgator.com, are operated using cPanel. This is your control panel where you can do things like adding new domain names to your hosting account, installing website scripts, tracking your traffic, and more.

After you’ve registered for something like Hostgator.com, you will need to figure out the DNS settings (domain name server settings) so you can tell your domain name where to go.

You should receive your DNS settings in your welcome email from your host after you sign up. You will take these DNS settings and put them in the DNS settings area within the management area of your domain name registrar.

You are basically telling your domain name where to show up on the web... And you want it to show up on your hosting account.

So at this point, you have registered a domain name, registered for a hosting account, gotten your DNS settings and input them in your domain name registrar management area, and added your domain name to your cPanel hosting account.

If you have any trouble with this at all, then your hosting company should be able to help you, and there usually lots of video tutorials available to watch on YouTube. Where there is a will, there is a way!

It’s worth mentioning that your hosting company will probably offer you the chance to register your domain name directly through them. In which case, they will take care of setting your DNS settings and all that. Some people, myself included, prefer to keep their domain registration and their hosting separate for security and safety reasons.
